High-Pressure Y-Strainer — Class 1500/2500 Forged Body
The high-pressure Y-strainer is a forged SS316L inline filter for 1/2" to 4" lines rated Class 1500 to 2500, with an integral seat and a blow-down port for in-line cleaning. It protects pumps, meters and control valves in steam, injection and hydroprocessing service where cast bodies are not permitted.
Product Overview
CLASS 1500/2500 FORGED
Forged body for high pressure applications. Integral seat design. Blow-down connection for in-line cleaning.
KEY DIMENSIONS
Where It Is Used
- Power generation: High-pressure steam and condensate lines use forged bodies because Class 1500 and 2500 service rules out cast construction.
- Oil and gas upstream: Wellhead, choke and injection lines are filtered ahead of metering and control valves at pressures above Class 900.
- Refinery hydroprocessing: Hydrogen and high-pressure process lines need a strainer with no gasketed joint in the flow path to avoid leak paths.
- Chemical high-pressure injection: Catalyst and additive injection skids use the blow-down port to flush the screen without breaking the pressure boundary.
- Water treatment high-pressure RO: Reverse-osmosis feed and concentrate lines at 60-80 bar protect membranes and energy-recovery devices from debris.

HIGH PRESSURE Y-STRAINER vs Cast body Y-strainer
| Forged Class 1500/2500 | Cast body Y-strainer | |
|---|---|---|
| Body construction | Machined from forged SS316L bar stock, so there are no shrinkage-porosity paths through the pressure boundary. | Cast CF8M body; pressure-boundary soundness depends on casting quality and radiography coverage. |
| Pressure class | Rated Class 1500 and 2500 with an integral forged seat in sizes from 1/2 inch to 4 inch. | Normally limited to Class 600 and below; higher classes are not standard catalogue items. |
| Leak paths | Integral seat and welded or threaded ends remove the gasketed seat joint from the flow path. | Seat and cover joints rely on gaskets that see the full differential pressure. |
| Cleaning method | Blow-down port flushes the screen in line, without breaking the pressure boundary or removing the cover. | Cover must be opened and the screen physically removed for cleaning. |
| Relative cost | Higher material and machining cost per unit, driven by forged stock and 100% machining. | Lower purchase price at the same nominal size, which is why it dominates low-pressure service. |
| Best fit | Small-bore, high-pressure lines where a failure is a safety event, not a maintenance task. | Utility and low-pressure lines where Class 600 is adequate and budget drives the decision. |
