316L Duplex Basket Strainer — ANSI 150# Flanged
The 316L duplex basket strainer is a two-chamber pipeline filter with an integral diverter valve, built in CF8M stainless steel for 2" to 24" ANSI flanged lines rated 150# to 600#. It serves chemical plants, refineries and water treatment plants that cannot stop flow to clean a screen.
Product Overview
2" ANSI 150# FLANGED
Continuous-flow duplex design. Quick-switch diverter valve. Investment cast 316L body. Perforated screen 0.5-6mm.
KEY DIMENSIONS
Where It Is Used
- Chemical plants: Continuous reactor feed and cooling-water loops run 24/7, so the standby chamber is cleaned while the process line stays in service.
- Oil refineries: Installed upstream of pumps, meters and heat exchangers to catch weld slag and coke fines without a unit shutdown for basket cleaning.
- Water treatment plants: Protects membranes, dosing skids and flow meters on raw-water and backwash lines where a stop interrupts the whole treatment train.
- Power generation: Filters cooling water and auxiliary steam-condensate lines, where a manual strainer cleaning would force a load reduction.
- Pulp and paper mills: Handles white-water and stock lines carrying fibre that blinds a basket quickly, so changeover happens several times per shift.

316L DUPLEX BASKET STRAINER vs Single basket strainer (simplex)
| Duplex basket strainer | Single basket strainer (simplex) | |
|---|---|---|
| Flow during cleaning | Uninterrupted — the diverter valve routes flow to the standby chamber while the dirty basket is serviced. | The line must be shut down and drained before the basket can be opened, so filtration stops. |
| Changeover time | Under 30 seconds with a single lever or gear-operated diverter; no purge or restart sequence. | 15 to 45 minutes per cleaning cycle once isolation, drain, basket removal and restart are counted. |
| Footprint | Roughly 2 to 2.5 times the face-to-face length of a simplex body, plus cover clearance on both chambers. | Shortest face-to-face dimension of any basket strainer, which suits tight pipe racks. |
| Capital cost | Higher unit price — two chambers, two baskets and a diverter valve instead of one of each. | Lowest purchase price per unit of any strainer type at the same size and rating. |
| Maintenance labour | Cleaning happens during production with one operator; no shutdown permit or restart checklist. | Every cleaning consumes a scheduled stop, a permit and restart labour on the affected line. |
| Best fit | Continuous processes where an unplanned stop costs more than the strainer itself. | Batch, intermittent or non-critical lines that have spare capacity to absorb a stop. |
